Judy Irwin won heat after heat in the car races

She made this spiffy Y's Menettes car out of a block of wood! It was beautiful and very fast. Thanks Judy!

See you at Convention! Don't forget your shell Centrepiece

This is Anne of Green Gables, sitting in a conch shell and  playing with shells she found on the beach.
This evening she and her friends plan to meet on the beach for a bonfire (see the little 'flame' below).
Later they plan to climb the rocks around by the lighthouse!
Don't you forget to bring a lawn chair and a blanket for our sing song Friday night.
Such fun!
This is your Maritimes Region entry.

I challenge you to get new members

The Maritimes Region Challenge 2013

I challenge you to get new members

Starting now and until your first meeting in September, I would like all members of Y's Menettes in our Maritimes Region to pick a woman in her community with the idea of having her as a new member in the fall. Talk to her about your experiences in Y's Menettes, about the fundraising we do to assist persons in our own area and in the Maritimes. Talk to her about our relationship to the Y's Mens clubs in our Region.  Talk to her about the opportunity to make new friends. Talk to her about our wonderful International Project in Kerala, India and the impact the project is having there. Talk to her about the help we give to the Savanah La Mar youth in Jamaica. Show her how she could make a real difference in our world by being a Y's Menette.  Show her our blog.

Perhaps someone who has a new 'empty nest' or someone who has just retired from work outside their home or has less work at home because children have grown up and gone. Perhaps someone from your church or someone from your faith community. Perhaps someone whose family dynamic has changed and she is lonely. Perhaps someone from your gym class. Perhaps someone who has just moved in to your area. For newcomers, Y's Menettes would give her a valuable sense of belonging to her new community!

Talk to her about your experience in your club, your commitment to the purpose and ideas of Y's dom. Talk to her about the volunteering you do as well. Invite her to a summer fundraising function of your club. Introduce her to this blog. I   feel strongly that there are many women in the Maritimes would be pleased to join us!

Think of your club as a cherished garden - you cultivate, plant, water and nourish your garden, and they flourish. I challenge you to grow your club 20%. If one in five of our current membership is successful in this venture your club will grow by 20%. The Y's Menette movement deserves our attention to growing our numbers so our clubs will remain vibrant!

Y'sly and with lots of love,
Patricia

A photo of the Sydney Y's Menettes from Carol Reynolds

Here is a recent photo of the Sydney women taken at Christmas. How many of them do you know?

Epsilon Visitation - it was fabulous!

Last night was Epsilon's Visitation. Each club in the Saint John River Valley take turns hostings a dinner for all the club members to enjoy. Helen Kingston made her wonderful punch and I made the treats for the reception. Charlie Fullarton's meal team made the lovely roast pork dinner and desert.

In this photo from the left: Betty Crowley, Muriel Gorman, and Marjorie Atkinson. We were all so pleased that Carman Merrill and Charlie Seymour were able to join us from Nova Scotia. Well over 100 people attended. Epsilon Vice President Blair Cockburn was the Master of Ceremonies. He did a great job!

The speaker was Tim Richardson, Principal Secretary to our L G Graydon Nicholas. His Honour was called away to the funeral of aboriginal elder Margaret Labillois where he delivered the eulogy.

Little Clara Walters, daughter of new Y's Men Drew Walters and Samantha Tucker was the youngest at the dinner.  She is too young to eat our food - she got her dinner directly from her mommy and right at the table. You go girl!

Here she is sitting in the basket of my scooter and thoroughly enjoying herself. She was a lovely guest!

Here is my house. I made the reception food. Khal flaked out on the floor after helping coat 150 strawberries with chocolate, making 36 deviled eggs, baked brie with pecans and apricot, 84 bagel pieces with cream cheese and lox, 60 crab filling in puff pastry, veggie trays and more. Natalie is asleep in her tent but she didn't help us.

Easter news from the Amherst Y's Menettes President Sharon Merrill

This is a picture of us (Y's Menettes) and Judi Giroux (Y Service Club and Y Board Chair), before we perform our dare in front of onlookers at the Y. We did a fashion show and wiggled our bunnny tails at the end. This was a fundraiser for the Strong Kids Campaign.

Happy Easter everyone!

These little Persian babies are a year old now. These two were born last year and were a bit too young to really pose for an Easter picture with the bird's nests. They loved the smell of the twigs!

A happy and blessed Easter to all of you, Patricia

Svenstrup, 22nd March. 2013

Dear Y’s Menettes,

I have great news about our project: Centre for HIV – AIDS Awareness Programme and Educational Support to AIDS Affected/Infected Destitute Children, Kerala, India. I am happy to be able to inform you, that we have already sent our second instalment. A week ago I received a progress report and an expenditure statement up to 28.2.2013. It was interesting reading.

A skill building workshop for infected/affected children and their parents took place on the 23rd and 24th February 2013 at Renewel Centre, Kaloor, Kochin. They had assembled around 140 persons from different places of Ernakulam District, 64 students and their parents. Many dignitaries had blessed the occasion with their presence. And for the volunteers and field workers it was a great job to gather the HIV-infected/affected persons from the district by continuously visits and counseling.
The first day of the programme was on the 23rd February and a public meeting was arranged. There was a good collection of study materials which included note books, air bags, instrument box, umbrellas, tiffin box, pen etc.

Main faculty for the two days Seminar and Counseling Class was Dr. Hari Kumar, National Con- sultant of HIV-AIDS Govt. of Kerala, Dr. P.K.Mathew, Consultant, District Hospital, and Ernakulam & Smt. Dhanya Counselor.  The two day seminar on Life Skill education for children helps to develop a peer support for children and facilitate them to develop the skills of decision making, problem solving, creative thinking, critical thinking, effective communication, inter personal relationship skills, self awareness, empathy, coping with emotions and stress etc. Effective sessions for parents, interactive sessions, and recreational programme were the other attraction on the seminar.
We hope that the two day seminar would certainly help the children to be more self-dependence, aware of their rights & duties and to overcome the social settings of the discriminative society.

PUBLISHED MATERIALS
There is printed 500 numbers of posters and 1000 number of pamphlets posters mainly used in the industrial areas and other migrated labor colonies, and pamphlets were distributed to children and parents. The posters mainly featured with preventive steps to be taken against HIV-AIDS. The pam- phlets for children are very informative and certainly help those to aware of children’s rights, nutri- tion, shelter, protection health care etc.

BUILDING CONSTRUCTION
They have completed 15 m. depth well for water supply. Excavation for foundation and footing for column have been completed. We hope that the construction work will start within 2 weeks in full swing.

Thank you to YMCA Mattakuzhi – Project Co-coordinator C.I. Chacko and President Paul M. Philip for good information. I hope many clubs after this informative reading will take steps to send money for this excellent project.

Y’sly and sincerely yours,
Gurli Holm

Women's World Day of Prayer

Women's World Day of Prayer
1 March 2013
International Service Director - Christian Emphasis - Mrs Elfie Musil
Women’s World Day of Prayer takes place internationally on the first Friday of March every year. In 2013 that will be 1 March.
The origins of the Women’s Day of Prayer go back to the 19th century. The aim was to support women both at home and abroad. Nowadays, a service is held all round the world on the first Friday in March every year.
The women of a different country, chosen each year, write the words for the service. The words are then translated into over sixty languages and thousand dialects. In return, the prayers of women throughout the world are focused on that country. This year it is the turn of France, with the theme of "I was a stranger and you welcomed me" (Matthew 25: 31-46).
France has always accepted asylum seekers fleeing on political grounds. Some examples are those from Hungary, Chile and Vietnam. Almost a quarter of the current population has at least one foreign grandparent.
If you can’t celebrate World Day of Prayer on the first Friday in March, choose another date that works for your community and you can celebrate in symbolic solidarity with women around the world.
No one after lighting a lamp puts it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
-Matthew 5:15
Honor a Woman Who Brought You Light
Bless the Women Who Will Carry It On
